As part of the 2023 special exhibition “Berliner Kontraste” at Museum Ephraim-Palais, we put out an open call to all Berliners to send in their pictures for our project “Berlin jetzt!”. We received over 1,500 submissions showing the city through the perspectives of 450 photographers. This year, we invited the contributors themselves to create a special presentation on the 3rd floor of the Museum Ephraim-Palais with works selected from this magnificent collection of images. Five of these contributors answered our call. Together, they selected pictures, grouped them by theme and wrote the accompanying texts. The team from the Stadtmuseum Berlin was merely there to provide support, an exciting change of roles for both sides.

The special presentation “Berlin im Blick” shows more than 70 outstanding photographs taken by around 50 Berliners. They show Berlin’s architecture, natural environment, residents and visitors, as well as the city’s energy, pace, rhythm and changes. In an atmospheric snapshot of Berlin in seven parts, these works provide insight into what moves the city and its people.

At two stations in the special presentation, visitors are also invited to create their own small exhibition using photo cards. There is also a hands-on station for children.

##### Update

In the course of the extension of the exhibition until June 16, 2025, the five curators of the presentation have engaged with the historical photo collection of the Stadtmuseum Berlin and selected 50 motifs based on the themes. They complement the photo cards and connect the present of "Berlin jetzt!" with the past preserved in the museum's images. Additionally, the curators have created more than 20 tension-filled image pairs from historical motifs and their own photographs. These can be seen in an accompanying booklet in the exhibition.
