More than eight hundred years ago, a village settlement arose in what is now Berlin-Zehlendorf. How did people live in the Middle Ages? What was village life like? What did people eat? The permanent exhibition at Museumsdorf Düppel invites you on a journey of discovery at this historical site.

Clauertstraße 11
14163 Berlin

**Opening Hours**
14 March - 7 November 2026

A multimedia exhibition at the entrance to the open-air museum provides insight into the everyday life of rural populations in the Middle Ages. In the years surrounding 1200, the region was shaped by the founding of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and by immigration of people from the west who came to settle territories that were formerly occupied by Slavic peoples. A timeline at the exhibition shows how the region developed and how these developments changed the landscape.

Historical circumstances and exciting facts presented in an easy-to-understand way help visitors understand the medieval village located in the Krummes Fenn conservation area. Interactive stations invite you to smell, touch and try things out, and will prepare you for an exciting historical presentation in the outdoor area of the open-air museum.

## Six characters tell their stories

Based on original excavation finds, six fictitious residents in the exhibition talk about their everyday lives in the village on the green outskirts of modern-day Berlin. Follow the audio tracks on a journey back in time to the rural world of the Middle Ages and get to know some of the people who may have once lived here.
