Open Spaces

Artists’ Statement

“Time Machine Infinitum – Queer migrant Berlin” is an installation on an Open Space in the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition. It takes visitors on a journey through time, exploring the history, presence and future through the lens of queer migrant Berliners. This work moves through different times, blending a linear narrative. It highlights and honors the presence and cultural heritage of queer migrants and BIPoC in the city.

Conversations Behind Lace Curtains

On the Open Space, three Polish artists reflect on the special relationship between Poles and Berlin under the title "Freedom, Equality, Solidarność".

Life and Survival

In the Open Space project "Here and Now. Women⁺ Experiencing Homelessness in Berlin," Anna, Janet, Janita-Marja, Richi, and Susanne talk about housing and homelessness. They represent many homeless women⁺ and discuss social boundaries, dignity, self-determination, and the reasons for their homelessness.

New Open Space projects at BERLIN GLOBAL

"Create your own exhibition!" was our call in summer 2023. We were looking for groups and organizations that wanted to realize their exhibition projects with us on the Open Spaces in BERLIN GLOBAL. 34 ideas were submitted. An independent jury selected three projects that will be realized together by 2025 and 2026.

Gentrify this!

Berlin was long considered poor but sexy. But those times are over. Berlin has become increasingly attractive for large real estate companies and investors. Rents are exploding and affordable housing is becoming increasingly scarce. Gentrification is one of the biggest areas of conflict in current urban development policy.
