In der Poststraße 23 in Berlin-Mitte ist das im Original erhaltene Bürgerhaus aus der Biedermeier-Zeit zu finden. Seit 1989 wird es als Museum betrieben.

In addition to its six museum locations, the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin also comprises central management bodies such as the Executive Office, four management divisions, as well as various specialist departments and project teams. The foundation’s governing bodies are the executive board and the Foundation Council. The Foundation Council is chaired by the member of the Berlin Senate responsible for museum affairs or a representative appointed by him or her.

The Foundation Council is chaired by Senator for Culture and Social Cohesion Sarah Wedl-Wilson. Specialist consulting committees support the museum’s work. The Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin is the sole shareholder of Stadtmuseum Berlin GmbH, which is the service company of the Stadtmuseum Berlin. The Stadtmuseum Berlin currently employs around 300 people.
