Event
Duration
8h

Culture, cocktails and music under the motto ‘Love’ await you in and around the Nikolai Qarter. In the Museum Nikolaikirche we are offering you a wide range of programmes for a very special summer night! The permanent exhibition presents the architectural, religious and musical history of Berlin’s oldest surviving church building and the city’s development in the Middle Ages. And the exhibition ‘Decolonial – what remains?’ takes a critical look at Berlin’s centuries-long involvement in global enslavement and colonial history.

Programme

6 p.m. – 2 a.m. | Family
Riddles for children & families
Eight exciting riddles invite young and old to explore the historic building together.

6 p.m. + 9 p.m. | Short guided tour
‘I look at you with joy.’ Paul Gerhardt – heavenly and earthly love
The hymn writer and pastor Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676) is closely associated with Berlin’s St Nicholas Church. Art historian Claudia Wasow-Kania sheds light on his life, work and hymn texts under the aspect of ‘love’.

8 p.m. + 10 p.m. | Performance
Body of Blues
‘Body of Blues’ is a collaborative sound and dance performance by artist Theresa Weber and sound artist Nathanael Amadou Kliebhan, performed by four female dancers: live, electronic and inspired by Caribbean carnival as a form of protest and celebration of beauty.

11:30 p.m. | Short guided tour
Crypts and tombs
Berlin’s St. Nicolas’ Church has been a place of burial for the deceased since the beginning of the 13th century. Art historian Claudia Wasow-Kania presents preserved and reconstructed burial sites in today’s museum.

0 – 1:30 a.m. | Music
Sonic Sisters Society
The Berlin ‘FLINTA*’ DJ collective ‘Sonic Sisters Society’ plays the most beautiful songs on the subject of love across all genres. The abbreviation stands for women, lesbians, intersex and non-binary people as well as all those who identify as trans or with no gender.
