Berlin stories

The door of the techno-club “Tresor”

Between the rooms “Free Space” and “Boundaries” at BERLIN GLOBAL stands a very special door: the steel door of the legendary club “Tresor” at Leipziger Straße 126a. In the series “Favourite Object” we present it.

Heinrich Zille

Heinrich Zille, also known in Berlin as “Pinselheinrich”, remains one of the city’s most well-known and most popular artists. And yet, he was not born into a career in art: it was only following his dismissal as a lithographer from the Photographische Gesellschaft which provided him with the impetus to devote himself entirely to his craft.

War

A huge, splintered, rust-coloured sculpture dominates the war-themed space in the BERLIN GLOBAL exhibition. Thick black lines stretch out from it like cracks across the floor. Like a huge wedge, this foreign body seems to break into the ground, evoking the destructive power of bombs and grenades. But it can also be understood as a symbol of the scattering of people and things through war and flight.
