Duration
1h 30min

In a guided tandem tour at BERLIN GLOBAL, Gülşah Stapel, author of the book Recht auf Erbe in der Migrationsgesellschaft (2023), uses the international pop song “Parole, parole!” (Mina & Alberto Lupo, IT 1972, most commonly known in Turkey as ‘Palavra, Palavra!’) to talk about international interconnections and the visibility of Turkish-German life in public spaces and museums.

What can a pop song that has travelled the world tell us about memories of Turkish-German relations, labour migration and the 1973 World Youth Festival in East Berlin? How are these events of the past still related today? Gülşah Stapel will explore these questions with participants in the tour. Topics will include places of remembrance for Berliners of Turkish origin and the urgent need to depict histories of migration in museums.

The tour will be held in German.

Speaker: Gülşah Stapel
Moderator: Sophie Eliot
