The first barrel organs arrived in Chile in the mid-19th century in the luggage of immigrants. To compensate for the declining musical quality of the instruments over the years, they were accompanied by large drums from the 1920s onwards.
Héctor Lizana Gutiérrez was the inventor of the whirling Chinchin dance and known nationwide in his Chilean homeland as Patitas de Oro, “the Golden Legs”. On this evening, his descendants will present their rousing arts. They will also give a cinematic insight into the history of the barrel organ, chichin and how the mechanical musical instruments came to Chile.
