Event
Duration
4h

Illustrator and intervention designer Patricia Vester invites BERLIN GLOBAL visitors to explore maps and images that have shaped our worldview.

Starting from the school wall map “Germany’s Colonies” in the room War at BERLIN GLOBAL, old atlases and maps are taken apart, painted over, annotated and reassembled.

This full-day drop-in activity offers a creative and critical engagement with maps, making the art form of mapping accessible through overpainting and drawing new maps.

Feel free to bring along old materials.

Follow up

As part of “Black History Month”, Patricia Vester works with the school wall map at BERLIN GLOBAL in various formats. On 21 February, there will be a public presentation of the project and process.

Patricia Vester

Patricia Vester is an illustrator, intervention designer, activist, curator, process facilitator and museum consultant on colonial contexts and museum practice, as well as a developer of anti-discrimination approaches to art and cultural education. She was born in Germany to a German mother and a Ghanaian father. Her interest lies in colonial traces and the lack of spaces for addressing them. She seeks dialogue on possible educational formats and creates comics and graphic novels as workbooks. Her work can be found in institutions such as the Museum Utopie und Alltag, Stadtmuseum Cottbus, Museen Stade, Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten, Kunsthalle Karlsruhe and the Brandenburg Museum für Zukunft, Gegenwart und Geschichte.
